Soaps That Trigger Eczema
Eczema is a chronic condition of the skin that affects thousands of people all over the country. It is an itchy inflammation of the skin and can cause a red, itchy and scaly rash on any part of the body. One of the main types of eczema is atopic dermatitis. This condition is usually genetic and develops in early childhood.
To avoid the common symptoms of this disease it is important that you avoid soap and irritants and use creams recommended by your doctor to prevent itching. Here are some of the main types of soap to avoid using:
1. Soap with botanical oils
While many people think that botanical oils are natural and therefore should be okay to use on your skin, this is not true. The natural ingredients found in botanical oils can cause skin sensitivity and make this disease much worse. Some common botanical oils that have been known to irritate skin in people with this condition include rose oil, almond oil, vanilla, and more.
2. Soap containing methylchloroisothiazolinone and methylisothiazolinone
Methylchloroisothiazolinone (MCI) and methylisothiazolinone (MI)are common ingredients used in the world of beauty of fragrance. These ingredients are often added to soaps, shampoos, creams, and other products to increase the shelf life of the products. Using skin care products that have these ingredients can cause itchy skin, red skinn, and irritation.
3. Soap with propylene glycol
Propylene glycol is another common ingredient found in cosmetic and skincare products. It helps to moisturize skin for many people, however in others it can cause irritation and make the symptoms of this disease much worse. Try eliminating using products that have this ingredient and see if your skin clears up.
4. Antibacterial soap
Antibacterial soap is full of chemicals that are not supposed to be used on your skin. While these soaps can help kill bacteria, they can also irritate the skin. Try to stop using these products if you are able to.
5. Strong fragrance soap
A large percentage of people who suffer from this condition also have severe and moderate sensitivities to fragrances. Each person may have different fragrances that affect them, however if you are unsure of your personal allergies it is best to avoid fragrances all together. Fragrances can cause many allergies to the skin and therefore, people with this condition should try to use fragrance free products whenever possible.
6. Soap with cocamidopropyl betaine
Typically, people assume that anything that is in coconut oil must be great for your bodies, especially our skin. This is not always the case. If you suffer from this condition and you use soap that contains cocamidopropyl betaine (from coconut oil) it is best to stop using this product immediately. This ingredient has been known to cause redness and irritation on the face, head and hands.
We all want what is best for our skin and people who suffer from this condition have a very difficult time caring for their skin. Finding the right types of cosmetic and skincare products is a constant struggle. It is important to read every ingredient on the products to make sure that they do not contain any of these ingredients. Try using products that have limited ingredients and are allergy free to help prevent itchiness and a future outbreak of your skin.
